Dinner ceremony held April 8 at Philadelphia’s Crystal Tea Room
(Philadelphia, April 10, 2014) – US Airways, a subsidiary of American Airlines Group, was honored for its vital role in boosting the commercial and academic ties between the Delaware Valley and Israel with the prestigious 2014 Yitzhak Rabin Public Service Award from the Philadelphia-Israel Chamber of Commerce. The Award was accepted on behalf of the airline by Robert Isom, executive vice president and chief operating officer of American Airlines Group at a dinner gala on the evening of April 8 at The Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia.
“Receiving the Yitzhak Rabin Public Service Award from the Philadelphia-Israel Chamber of Commerce is a true honor for US Airways and American Airlines Group. With the launch of the first daily non-stop flight between Philadelphia International Airport and the Middle East in 2009, we are very proud of the role we hold in helping business leaders and families cultivate relationships on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Isom. “I want to thank the Chamber for their ongoing support of our daily service to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport and their strategic vision to link businesses and educational institutions in Israel and the Delaware Valley.”
The Rabin Award is the Chamber’s highest distinction for regional businesses and their leaders who exemplify the organization’s goals of broadening business relationships between the United States and Israel. In 2009, US Airways established daily, non-stop service between its international gateway at Philadelphia International Airport and Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport, quickly becoming a popular international flight for customers and cargo traveling to Israel.
“American Airlines Group and subsidiary US Airways have been vital members of our region’s business community and important catalysts for business and economic development, especially with Israel,” said Richard Bendit, President of the PICC. “We recognize Mr. Isom’s leadership, American’s substantial investment at the Philadelphia International Airport and in our local communities, and the dedicated hard work by American’s team based in Philadelphia which have been integral to the growth of economic and business ties between the greater Philadelphia region and Israel.”
American Airlines Group has helped to position the greater Philadelphia region as a competitive international gateway for the U.S. by:
- Launching daily, non-stop service between its international gateway at Philadelphia International Airport and Tel Aviv, Israel in 2009, quickly becoming a popular international route for both customers and air cargo shippers including the pharmaceutical industry.
- Investing in nearly $2.5B in improvement projects at Philadelphia International Airport since 2001 including partnering with the City of Philadelphia in building a state-of–the-art terminal which is home to US Airways’ daily non-stop flight to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport.
- Investing $5 million to triple its cold-storage warehousing capacity at the Philadelphia International Airport. Greater Philadelphia’s robust life science community will profit greatly from this state-of-the-art refrigerated facility that is scheduled to open later this year.
- Bringing US Airways and American Airlines together to form the world’s largest airline, further positioning the Philadelphia International Airport as an important international hub, increasing opportunities for regional companies to connect with global markets while creating additional opportunities for the airline’s 8,000 local employees.
