At West, Lawton is responsible for the Radical and Disruptive Innovation Group within research & development. Conceived as an internal incubator for novel product concepts and business models, his group supports the strategic vision by rapidly advancing early stage device development through a human centric design philosophy and rigorous innovation
process. His team sponsors a variety of academic research programs across the globe and partners with early stage growth companies to produce breakthrough technology.
Formerly as Director of Innovation at Unilife Medical Solutions, Lawton was responsible for upstream customer feasibility programs, intellectual property, and new product development within the wearable injector business unit. His team’s efforts directly lead to a product that generated a $75MM investment from
Amgen. Ultimately, he took the lead in technology transfer to Amgen, establishing a wearable injector design center housing 23 engineers in King of Prussia. In prior roles, Lawton has provided leadership to the marketing and sales function at GE Healthcare, founded his own medical device company, and served as Director of Platform Device Strategy at Teva Pharmaceuticals.
